OPUN

Student Design Competition: Kirkby Town Square

Ashfield District Council is working jointly with OPUN, the Architecture Centre in developing design concepts for the provision of a new open space in Kirkby Town Centre. OPUN ran a Design Competition for full or part-time students in disciplines related to the built environment that included amongst others, Landscape Architecture, Architecture or Urban Design.

Regenerating Kirkby Town Centre is a key priority for Ashfield District Council. In 2011 the semi derelict Ashfield Precinct was demolished and replaced by a new Morrisons store. The Council has formed a ‘Town Team’ and submitted an application to become a Mary Portas Pilot. Kirkby’s ambition is to improve the market and provide space for events and activities in the town centre.

The East Midlands Design Review Panel shortlisted and invited six entries to Design Review Panel hosted by Nottingham Trent University. Find out here about the winning entries.
